MISSION OF THE ENGLISH PROGRAM
     To develop the students’ acquisition of knowledge as the development of the competences of linguistic skills geared at promoting the students’ personal, cultural, social, ethical and aesthetical growth by providing the needed educational experience for effective communication in English.

VISION OF THE ENGLISH PROGRAM
     The development of communicatively competent student, who is academically and technologically literate a critical and creative thinker, capable of using the English language, making and dealing with the expectation and demands of the society.

GOALS
·         To update the students’ learning of English through the use of challenging content, performance,  assessment standards as well as through a revised teaching paradigm.
·         To prepare all the students to reach their potential through the development of the ability to communicate effectively in English in all 3 standards:  Listening/Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
·         To prepare all the students to acquire the life skills and communication skills in English that will enable them to perform effectively in higher learning academic and technological scenarios thus encouraging them to become lifelong learning.

STANDARDS
     In order for students to master the basic English Language Skills:

·         LISTENING/SPEAKING:  The student listen and uses the English language to interpret oral input, construct meaning, interact with confidence both verbally and non-verbally, and express ideas effectively in a variety of personal, social, and academic contexts.
·         READING:  The student uses reading strategies, literary analysis, and critical thinking skills to construct meaning and develop an understanding as well as an appreciation of a variety of genres of both fiction and nonfiction.
·         WRITING:  The student effectively communicates to a variety of audiences in all forms of writing through the use of writing process, proper grammar, and age-appropriate expressive vocabulary.

EVALUATION CRITERIA PER SEMESTER
1.     3-4 Tests (Reading Comprehension and Skills Tests) (per semester)   4.  Special Project (1 grade per semester)
2.     Assessment Activities   (1 grade per semester)                  5.  Homework  (1 grade per semester)
3.     Quizzes  (vocabulary and skills)   (1 grade per semester)   6.  Oral Talks (1 grade, 4 per semester)

NOTE:  1.   There’s a possibility that the amount of evaluation criteria may be changed to better suit students’ needs and interests. (El criterio de evaluación puede surgir cambios de acuerdo a la necesidad del estudiante).
                2. Although attendance and student’s behavior do not constitute a grade, they may have an indirect influence on the student’s academic achievement.  It’s important that students follow the classroom rules. (El estudiante debe seguir las reglas del salón, ya que su comportamiento dentro del salón de clase es muy importante para obtener un buen aprovechamiento académico con éxito).
